Cleaning your home requires motivation, time, and of course, the right cleaning supplies. At Cleandae, we have tried all the cleaning products out there and we know which ones work - and which ones are a waste of time. Discover our tried-and-true cleaning supply list below to start building out your cleaning supply cache.

Whole-Home Cleaning Supplies

Before we break down specific cleaning supplies you should have for each room, let’s cover some general cleaning supplies and how you should organize them.

Microfiber Cloths: Microfiber cloths are so multi-faceted that they can - and should - be used in every room. However, to reduce cross-contamination and keep your rags performing well wash after wash, sort your rags by color, and designate one color to each room in your home. For example, we sort our microfiber cleaning cloths by the following rules:

Red Microfiber Cloths: Used for the bathrooms

Green Microfiber Cloths: Used for dusting

Blue Microfiber Cloths: Used for cleaning mirrors

Sponges: Another essential cleaning tool, sponges come in a variety of styles to be used for a wide range of tasks. Consider the following sponge styles we use and how they can impact your workflow:

Green & Yellow Sponges: With one smooth side and one abrasive side, we use this style of sponge in the bathrooms. However, pay attention when using this sponge as they can scratch your bathtub or shower if you’re not careful!

Blue Sponges: Similarly to our microfiber rags, we recommend keeping your sponges separated by room. We only use the blue sponges in the kitchen.

Pink Sponges: Not frequently used, but can be beneficial depending on your needs, the pink sponges are used for china, crystal, and glassware. If you’re planning on cleaning these types of items, a pink sponge will be invaluable.

Floor Cleaners: The type of flooring in your home will determine the type of floor cleaners you will need. Generally speaking, you will want a vacuum, broom, and mop. Take special care that if you have hardwood floors you’re only using appropriate cleaners like Game-Time Wood Floor Cleaner or Bona. For vacuums, double-check that you’re using HEPA filters like our pros. These are essential for containing dirt and allergens.

Now that you’re familiar with how you should sort your cleaning rags, cleaning sponges, and floor cleaners, let’s take a look at the cleaning products you will need by room.

Kitchen Cleaning Supplies

Your kitchen is typically one of the largest rooms and with all its nooks and crannies, it requires the most cleaning supplies. For your kitchen cleaning, you’ll need a broom and mop, your microfiber cloths, blue sponges, and a variety of cleaners:

Multipurpose Cleaners: Your multi-purpose cleaners can be used on your countertops, inside your refrigerator, for the interior and the exterior of your cabinets, and even in your sink. Choose one with disinfecting properties so you can disinfect and clean.

Stainless Steel Cleaner: Where you need to use your stainless steel cleaner will depend on your kitchen layout, but primary areas can include: the exterior of your refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, and the interior of your sink.

Oven Cleaner: While you won’t need to use an oven cleaning product every time you clean your kitchen, it is one product that you can’t effectively replace with another. Keep an oven cleaner on hand for getting those tough stains out of your oven.

Bathroom Cleaning Supplies

Break out your multi-purpose cleaner, your broom and mop, and microfiber cloths again, and then grab a green and yellow sponge, a scrub brush, a toilet brush, tile and grout cleaner, and glass cleaning spray. You’ll want to pay special attention to the supplies you use to clean your bathrooms to prevent cross-contamination with the other rooms in your house.

Bedroom & Living Room Supplies

For the rooms with soft surfaces in your home, your vacuum and a lint roller will be your best friends. Dust all hard surfaces with your designated microfiber rag and then use your vacuum and lint roller on your couches, beds, and pillows. This is especially important when you have furry pets!

Green and Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

Some homeowners prefer using green or eco-friendly cleaning products to keep their homes clean. At Cleandae, we’ve selected 7th Generation cleaners for our green cleaning services. No matter which line of green cleaning products you choose, keep in mind that depending on your lifestyle and the frequency of your cleaning, green cleaning products may not cut the mess. For the grimier rooms, select your traditional cleaning products.

To summarize, to clean your entire home, you will need the following house-cleaning supplies:

  • A variety of microfiber cloths
  • Sponges
  • A mop, broom, and vacuum
  • Multipurpose cleaner
  • Stainless steel cleaner
  • Glass cleaner
  • Oven cleaner
  • Tile and grout cleaner
  • Scrub brush
  • Toilet brush
  • Lint roller

While we’ve included some of our favorite products that our professionals use, there is no product or cleaning supply that will replace the efficiency and efficacy of the cleaning team at Cleandae. Reach out to us to schedule your home cleaning today
